Wrong Place DI Sally Parker Thriller Book 1 edition by M A Comley Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
I had the wonderful pleasure of reading an ARC of this debut novel of a new series by NYT and USA Today bestselling author, M. A. Comley. A long time fan of her Justice series, I was surprised--in my humble opinion DI Sally Parker has blown DI Lorne Simpkins now Lorne Warner out of the running as my favorite all time series star. A huge fan of the Alex Cross series by James Patterson, I love when I find an author that can keep a series going and still write page turning mystery/suspense and thrillers. I'm impatiently waiting for book 2 in this series and hope Ms. Comley doesn't make me wait too long.Book 1 introduces DI Sally Parker and her team. A serial killer is on the loose and one, at first glance, that shouldn't be hard to find as he picks his victims up in local bars and leaves behind a DNA sample. While waiting for the DNA results Sally and her team find themselves up against a brick wall as no one remembers who the victims were talking to or waited on at the bars. This guy simply blends in with the woodwork. They get their first break when the DNA samples come back with a hit on a convicted rapist recently released from prison. Like all criminals he professes his innocence, but with his arrest the team relaxes and plans their celebration--until another body turns up.
Combine the above with fabulous scenes into Sally's personal life, her partner's personal life, and you have a top notch read that will keep you turning pages all the way to the end--which leads to a very unexpected surprise. It's difficult to write more without giving away spoilers that I would prefer you read and enjoy for yourselves. A fabulous book with great characterization, well thought out and written plot and a fast paced thriller I simply couldn't put down.
I gave this book five stars and can highly recommend it to all my friends and fans.

Wrong Place DI Sally Parker Thriller Book 1 edition by M A Comley Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Shallow characters, weak dialogue, rediculous storyline. This one was a disappointment . Not worth the time or 99 cents. Sorry to say I had hopes after reading other reviews. This one was not for me.
Absolutely dreadful. There was a twist at the end, but the motive for the frameup of the convicted rapist was pretty weak. Characters were very shallow and not particularly likeable. Conversation was totally unrealistic, and I think that was what made me dislike the book so much.. People do NOT talk like this. Yes, I know it's set in England, but again, people do NOT talk like this. Unfortunately, I have already purchased #2 in the series, "No Hiding Place", and perhaps it'll be better. One can always hope.
This one was very difficult to finish. The whole thing just ugh sucked imho. The horribly unprofessional attitudes of the investigators and uncooperative attitudes of the people being questioned just rang so untrue it was hard to stay focused on the story. Really, no investigator worth their salt has weekends and nights off during a murder investigation. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.
Serial killers have the same MO we are taught to believe from TV and books. This book had a good plot but lacked the consistent MO in the style of killings and the typical souvenier collection from the murders. The book was a fast read which I appreciate, but the conversations seemed like a bad B level movie. The quality and smoothness just wasn't there. I still gave it a 4, based on it could be a cultural difference between the apparently British writer and the American reader, rather than it being the result of a less experienced writer.
DI Sally Parker has a serial killer on her patch, one who isn’t shy about leaving DNA at each of the crime scenes. She and her partner, DS Jack Blackman, struggle to learn why, and to keep the body count down. Parker’s pain-in-the-ass abusive ex-husband plagues her throughout the book, threatening her job, and distracting her from the matter at hand.
This was an interesting read for me. I initially got slightly confused with another series with similarly named characters in similar settings, and thought, oh, this must be a prequel. So I spent some time trying to mesh these characters with the other series characters, and I got a little lost. Once I figured out the discrepancy, though, I was able to enjoy this on its own.
I like Comley’s writing style – it’s conversational, and I feel like I’m right there with Parker, suffering through yet another briefing with her pompous desk-bound boss, dealing with her DS, or spending the weekend with her loving parents. One of the fun things about this series is I see that Parker shows up in Comley’s other series from time to time. This is a bonus for me - it makes the characters come alive, and adds realism.
I enjoy Comley’s other detective series (she also writes romance, which I can’t speak to because that’s not my cup of tea), and I was a bit hesitant to start this one, in case it didn’t measure up. But it did and I’m glad to know there are currently three more books to read in this series.
I don't like to review books, although I read a couple a week, but occasionally I feel so betrayed by an author I have to speak up. I am flabbergasted to see how prolific this author has been. This was my first book by Comley and most decidedly my last. Actually, I don't recall what motivated me to put this on my , but it is one of my favorite genres, and at 181 pages looked to be a quick read. Oh, gosh, I thought I'd never finish it! The pace is plodding, the dialog painful and trite. What is supposed to be clever banter between DI Stone and her partner, is forced and awkward and cringe-worthy, never clever. I could do better interviews than these two manage, generally neglecting to ask the obvious or pertinent questions. ALL of the men are versions of the same male stereotype, that is gruff, unpredictable, easy-to-anger her ex, her partner, her father, the neighbors, and, of course, the baddie. Written differently, this could have been a good mystery, but we are privy all along to what the killer is doing, so not much mystery there.
